Web2.0 blackmail?
This is weird.
I'm searching Google for my name (in inverted commas) and result nr 9 is a page that appears to be a profile page for me. I can even see my job title in the Google result summary.
I click thru of course, and what do I find? A page that could be my profile page. It's got all sorts of info about me and yet..
I never signed up to this site, hell, I've never heard of it.
I'm not sure what to think of it really. It's all public info of course, from LinkedIn etc. but it's just spooky that some random site has extracted and accumulated it all like that. Especially high up on Google. To be honest it feels not right. And yet, it's public info, so what, am I complaining? Well, yes, and no. I don't know.
Bloody irritating...
I'm gonna watch the page for a while to see how it develops.. without signing up of course.
It also talks about your online reputation being important as if they're gonna start adding crap to the page if you don't sign up. Anyone else got a naymz page?

Josh,
ReplyDeleteI'm one of the Naymz founders. I'm sorry you got a mixed impression when stumbling onto your profile. I assure you we won't be blackmailing you to to sign up or subscribe.
By generating profiles and getting them indexed we are ultimately trying to interest people to sign up and beef up the content on those profiles.
If you'd like your profile removed we are happy to oblige. If you do decide to claim it, you will receive a temporary Google placement for your name in the 'Sponsored Links' section of the results. This is a preview of our premium service which allows you to put customized placements on all major search engines.
Feel free to poke around the site and see a subset of the users who have created profiles. http://www.naymz.com/search/featured
Also, there are a number of about, faq and news articles sections if you'd like more information about our service.
Best wishes,
Tony
